The Manitoba Orff Chapter is committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive music education community. We strive to offer teaching and learning resources as well as professional development that includes music and cultures from across the world.
We acknowledge that we are part of systems that have caused harm. Music programs have taken and used music disconnected from its cultural heritage and teachings. We recognize the past and our role in creating change for the future.
As we continue to learn the truths of residential schools and their impact, we stand in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples across Manitoba; the survivors, families, and those deeply impacted by these atrocities.
We believe that the repertoire and learning experiences we select must be chosen with care and knowledge of historical context and cultural practices. We are committed to continue to learn and work together to improve our understanding. When we know better, we do better.
